Brennan makes Cavan return

Mickey Brennan has made a return to Simonstown
Cavan boss Tommy Carr has revealed his provisional squad for his team's National Football League campaign, with one surprise inclusion.

Simonstown's Mickey Brennan has returned to the Breffni fold for the first time since 2007, when he was dropped from the squad by then manager Donal Keogan.

The full-forward, who finished second in last season's Meath SFC top-scoring charts, played in Saturday's challenge match against Longford and his return is also a major boost to the Drumalee club, whom he is expected to transfer back to in the coming days.

"It's great to be back," said the Meath native. "It wasn't by choice that I left the Cavan panel I was dropped off it at that stage.

"I did okay in the Longford game, I was happy enough with my performance. I can't really comment on the feedback I've received, but the panel for the National League was named and I'm delighted.

"I'm going to have to push on and try to secure a place in the starting 15 now," he added.

Cavan travel to Roscommon this Sunday for their first round Division Three meeting at Dr Hyde Park, where throw-in is at 2.30pm.
