Former Meath great Gerry McEntee
Ex-Meath footballer and Dublin surgeon, Gerry McEntee, is heading the medical team which will be looking after Finance Minister, Brian Lenihan, during his current medical treatment. Mr Lenihan began his chemotherapy at the Mater Hospital in Dublin recently after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer over the Christmas period and has vowed to stay on in his ministerial position throughout his treatment. Mr McEntee, who is a neighbour and constituent of Mr Lenihan in Dublin 15, was also a member of the team which took care of the current Finance Minister's father, Brian Lenihan senior, during his liver transplant in 1989, which increased the former Tanaiste's life by six years before his passing in 1995. During his playing days, Gerry McEntee lined-out at midfield in Meath's back-to-back All-Ireland SFC triumphs of 1987 and '88, earning an All Star in the process. As a manager, he guided Blanchardstown outfit St Brigid's towards the Dublin SFC in 2003 and managed the Dublin minor football team in recent years.
