Limerick GAA is mourning the death of former inter-county dual star Danny Fitzgerald. The Claughaun clubman excelled for the Shannonsiders in both codes during the 1980s and early 1990s. He also had the distinction of representing Munster in both hurling and football, winning a Railway Cup hurling medal in the GAA's Centenary Year of 1984. Fitzgerald starred at centre forward on the Limerick team that won National Hurling League titles in 1984 and '85. He also caught the eye when scoring four points from play in the Limerick footballers' 3-12 to 0-23 defeat to Kerry in the 1991 Munster final. The deceased also enjoyed success with Claughaun, which is also the club of Eamonn Cregan, winning county senior titles in both codes in the 1980s.
