Tipperary midfielder James Woodlock
Injured Tipperary star James Woodlock admits that he faces a battle to be fit for the championship.
The highly-rated midfielder is resigned to missing the entire National Hurling League campaign after suffering a horrific double leg break in the closing stages of Drom & Inch's county final defeat to Thurles Sarsfields last October.
Woodlook has been told by medics that his right leg should be healed by March before he faces a lengthy period of rehabilitation.
He explained to the Irish Independent: "When the bone is healed, I'm depending on John Casey (physio). He's outstanding; he's been over a few times and has already given me small exercises, but I can't stop the leg from wasting because I'm not putting any pressure on it.
"He there's all the time, Cian O'Neill (Tipperary trainer) the same.
"Caroline Currid, our sports psychologist, is always in contact along with Liam Sheedy, Eamon O'Shea and Mick Ryan (Tipp management team).
"Anything I need, I'm going to get but I can't rush this thing. I'm just looking forward to going back walking and I think I'm strong-minded enough to drive on from there.
"I'll be hoping to go on the training camp abroad with Tipperary in April; perhaps able to do some light work or something," he added.
