Hill 16 seating mooted

Kerry support on Hill 16.
The GAA is considering turning Hill 16 into a seated area in a bid to combat pitch invasions. The idea was mooted during discussions of a special sub-committee charged with investigating pitch invasions. Hill 16, which is also known as Dineen/Hill 16, is the most famous terrace in Irish sport. But the frequency of pitch invasions, which generally start at the Hill 16 end of Croke Park, has become a major concern for the GAA for health and safety reasons. Temporary seating has been installed on the terrace for soccer internationals, and some Croke Park officials believe that seating the terrace for GAA matches would reduce the possibility of pitch invasions taking place. Croke Park stadium director Peter McKenna admitted in the Irish Sun that nothing could be ruled out, but also stressed the uniqueness of Hill 16 in Irish sport. "Hill 16 is a national icon and terraces give atmospheres," he said.
