Connacht club SFC: Corofin ease into another final
November 09, 2009
Corofin are just 60 minutes away from retaining their Connacht club football title following a comfortable victory over Leitrim's Glencar/Manorhamilton at Tuam Stadium.
Corofin2-13
Glencar/Manor.0-9
An upset looked to be on the cards after a bright opening from Glencar/Manor which saw them lead by 0-5 to 0-3 after 13 minutes. But with county star Alan Burke and Galway minor Ronan Steede to the fore, Corofin then took over to hold their opponents scoreless for the next 20 minutes.
And while the visitors hit back again after the restart, the Galway champions upped the ante again to run out convincing winners and qualify for their eighth provincial club final.
Two points from James Glancy after the resumption left the minimum between the teams with 22 minutes remaining. But Glencar/Manor managed just two points thereafter as Damien Burke, Cathal Silke and Tony Goggins shut up shop at the back for Corofin.
The decisive score arrived in the 44th minute when Corofin captain Kieran Comer finished to the net after Ronan Steede's initial effort had been saved. The Galway kingpins never looked back after that and put the result beyond doubt when Michale Farragher added a second goal in the closing stages.
