Former Armagh star Aidan O'Rourke
Yet another link with Armagh's 2002 All-Ireland winning team has been broken with the announcement by Aidan O'Rourke that he is retiring from inter-county football. A member of a famous footballing family, the Dromintee clubman produced a storming second half display in the historic victory over Kerry, and was honoured with an All-Star award later that year. The 32-year-old opted out of county football for a year before returning to play a role under Peter McDonnell in the past two years. He retires with one All-Ireland medal, six Ulster championships, one National League medal and two Ulster minor medals. O'Rourke is widely tipped to manage at inter-county level in the future, having been assistant to new Down boss James McCartan when Queens' University won the Sigerson Cup in 2007. "It was fantastic to play on some of the teams I played on and a privilege to play with some of the individuals I lined out with," the father of two told the Irish Daily Star.
