RTÉ are looking for the public to share their views on Irish sport and are asking them to nominate their choice for the Greatest Irish Sports Person Ever, with the results to be broadcast in a one hour television special on RTÉ One. RTÉ are looking for the public to vote now by logging on to www.rte.ie/greatestirishsportsperson and voting for the individual they feel is Ireland s Greatest Sports Person Ever. From Sonia to Padraig Harrington, from Gilesy to Christy Ring, from Brian O'Driscoll to Vincent O'Brien, we want the public to choose. A shortlist of 32 nominees has been compiled with the help of an expert panel of sports writers and commentators to help the voters make their choice. As a small nation, Ireland has produced an impressive line of great Olympians, footballers, hurlers, athletes, boxers, trainers and riders but who in our pantheon of sporting greats reigns supreme? And how do the greats of today cut it with the greats of the past? As well as voting for our greatest sportsperson, the public will also have the opportunity to highlight the Most Memorable Sporting Moment as well as the most heartbreaking So Near and Yet So Far Moment in Irish sporting history. The Greatest Irish Sports Person Ever! will count down the Top 10 Irish Sports People, as voted by the Irish public, and will feature interviews with many of the nominated sportspeople along with their families, friends and coaches as well as a prestigious line up of sports commentators and journalists. The programme will also feature classic archive images and the most memorable moments of their careers.
