This year Scullion Hurls celebrates thirty years in business and has established itself as one of Ireland's leading makers of hurleys and associated equipment. Says Micheal Scullion, who now runs the family business: "We produce a range of hurls for underage and senior hurling and senior teams in Antrim, across Ulster and Ireland and even further afield internationally. All carry the now famous Scullion name. We are constantly asked for other hurling themed gifts for fans of the game at home and overseas. We have now developed our unique Antrim Ash collection for hurling fans everywhere." Scullion Hurls also offer their own brand of officially approved sliotars and a wide range of hurling trianing equipment. But the traditional crafting of a hurley from the raw wood from the ash stump is at the root of their business. "Making hurls is still a very intricate craft. It requires a high level of skill and craftsmanship. My brother and myself are priviliged to carry on this ancient Irish art, as passed down to us by my father. Nestled in the heart of the north Antrim village of Loughguile where hurling is the life blood of the community, Scullion Hurls is a family business with 30 years' experience in the production of hand finished hurleys. Originally begun as a hobby by Joe Scullion in the late seventies, Joe would fasion hurls for himself and the other players on the local team Loughguile Shamrocks from ash trees stumped by himself then hand made to the individual's requirements.
