Former Armagh co-manager Brian McAlinden
Brian McAlinden has ruled out a return to the Armagh football hot seat.
The Lurgan man, who managed the Armagh under 21s to an Ulster final appearance this year, teamed up with Brian Canavan to win Ulster SFC titles in 1999 and 2000 before handing over the reins to Joe Kernan.
McAliden was mentioned as a possible candidate for the post following Peter McDonnell's resignation last month, but he won't be allowing his name to go forward.
"There's too much going on in Armagh at the moment I think. It would take a bit of time to get things sorted out. I don't feel I would be up to it," he said.
"Myself, Liam McCorry, John Byrne and Gerry Flynn took on the under 21s and that's the route we want to take at the moment."
With Joe Kernan and Kieran McGeeney having also ruled themselves out of the running, McGeeney's assistant in Kildare, Paul Grimley, has emerged as the favourite to land the post.
