Corey seeks revenge

Monaghan's Vinny Corey
Monaghan captain Vinny Corey sees Saturday's All-Ireland football qualifier against Derry as an opportunity to avenge their Ulster SFC defeat to the same opponents. Corey claims the Farneymen were "hurt" by the three-point defeat, which was overshadowed by a number of controversial incidents. "We were disappointed that we did not get the result and we were hurt," he said. "We probably felt after the Derry game that we probably beat ourselves. Looking back at that game, although Derry played well, we kicked an awful lot of wides ourselves. "We knew that we were capable of a lot better than that but we would be disappointed again with the way we played (against Armagh last Saturday). "It went right to the wire as we expected so we are happy enough to get the result." Corey feels Monaghan have "upped their game" in the absence of suspended star Tommy Freeman, who won't be available until the fourth round qualifiers on July 26. "Tommy is obviously a big miss for us. He is a massive player for us and he always was," he added. "I would rather be playing with him than without him, but the boys have responded well. Everyone has upped their game a wee bit."
