Leinster JFC: Maguire double sinks Wexford
May 14, 2009
A brace of Rory Maguire goals inside the opening five minutes paved the way for a comfortable Meath victory over Wexford in the preliminary round of the Leinster JFC at Wexford Park last night.
Meath 2-15
Wexford 1-10
The corner forward netted in the fourth and fifth minutes to give the visitors a 2-1 to 0-1 lead. Wexford, to their credit, responded with an 11th minute goal from Ben Brosnan before points from Liam Colfer (two) and Darren Foran brought them level on 1-4 to 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
But with Tom Walsh and Glen Loughran controlling midfield, Meath went on to lead by 2-7 to 1-6 at half-time thanks to points from Jamies Queeney and Mickey Newman.
The Royals extended their lead on the restart through scores from Ciaran Lynch and Newman, but three points from Colfer left just a goal between the sides with 14 minutes remaining.
But Meath outscored the home side by 0-6 to 0-1 in the closing stages to ensure a comfortable win.
