Clare and Galway booked their All-Ireland MHC semi-final spots following victories over Wexford and Dublin respectively at FBD Semple Stadium yesterday.

All-Ireland champions Clare bounced back from their Munster final defeat to Tipperary with a 2-16 to 0-13 win over Wexford. The Banner led by 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time thanks to a Paul Rodgers goal late in the first half.

With Sean O’Brien accurate from frees, Wexford reduced the deficit to the minimum, 0-10 to 1-8, after the restart, but they couldn’t get any closer as Clare kept them at arm’s length before Liam Murphy netted in added time to seal the deal.

In the other quarter-final, Brian Callanan, Cillian Roche and Harry Holmes combined for 3-10 in Galway’s 3-18 to 2-18 victory over Dublin.

Callanan had slotted three early frees before raising the game’s first green flag in the sixth minute. Dublin responded with four of the next five points before another burst of Galway points and a goal by Roche pushed them 10 points clear.

A Cathal O’Flynn goal saw Dublin cut the gap to 1-7 to 2-10 at the interval and the momentum remained with them after the break when another major from Darragh Kilduff left just the minimum in it, 2-11 to 2-12.

But a Harry Holmes goal in the 40th minute proved the difference in the end.

Clare and Galway now join provincial winners Kilkenny and Tipp in the last-four.
