Clare were in ruthless form this afternoon as they handed Wexford an emphatic 6-25 to 1-18 defeat to secure their second win in Division 1 Group A of the Allianz Hurling League.
Brian Lohan’s men hit the ground running at Chadwicks Wexford Park with an early goal from Peter Duggan and more majors from David Reidy, Aidan McCarthy and talisman Tony Kelly would have them on their way towards an unassailable 4-17 to 1-6 half-time lead.
Ross Banville and Rory Higgins hit points early in the restart to try and take some tarnish off the scoreline for the hosts, but their floodgates were still open as the Banner County banged in two more goals before they were through.
McCarthy raised his second green flag with five minutes to go and Mark Rodgers got Clare’s sixth goal in the first of four minutes of injury-time as the Slaneysiders tasted the second defeat of their league campaign.
