ROINN B

FETHARD 1-4 TINTERN 1-4

Fethard and Tintern played out a nail biting draw in an intriguing Allianz Roinn B Final. This was a tightly contested affair throughout with never more than a score separating the sides at any stage. These sides had met in the group stages with Fethard emerging as comfortable winners. However it was clear from the throw in that this was going to be a much tighter contest.

Eimear Kinsella opened the scoring with a fine point on the run for Tintern after four minutes. However Chloe Waters responded immediately for Fethard when her left footed shot was deflected to the net. Muireann Kehoe put Tintern back into the lead when she netted after a mazy run through a sea of defenders with seven minutes gone. Both defences tightened up considerably for the remainder of the half with forwards getting very little room. The impressive Eimear Whelan fired over from long range to level the scores 1-1 each with fifteen minutes gone. Just before the break Evelyn Barry pointed from a tight angle to edge Fethard ahead 1-2 to 1-1.

On the resumption Tintern levelled again through a fine individual score from Fiona Ryan. Eimear Kinsella again found the range when she pointed after a fine run from mid field with eight minutes gone to put Tintern back in the lead. Chloe Waters levelled things again as the tension began to build. Both defences were excellent throughout Zoe Bates and Eimear Whelan to the fore in the Fethard defence while Kerri Wall and the superb Annastasia Breen, whose long range kicking was a feature of the game, led the Tintern rearguard brilliantly. The hard working Chloe Waters seemed to have clinched the title for Fethard with a wonderful point on the turn with time almost up. However with literally the last kick of the game Fiona Ryan split the posts when she was first to react to the breaking ball from a long range Annastasia Breen free kick.

A draw was probably the fairest result on the day and Fethard had fine performances from Sarah O'Donoghue, Hannah Trainor and Chloe Waters while Tintern had star players in Muireann Kehoe Eimear Kinsella , Fiona Ryan and Annastasia Breen.
