Primary Schools Hurling
Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club extends its sincere congratulations to St Mary's NS Collinstown on winning the 2025 Westmeath Primary Schools Division 1 Hurling competition. St Mary's defeated Delvin's St Tolas NS in the final on a 1.08 to 2.04 scoreline, played at Mullingar's TEG Cusack Park on Monday May 19th.
Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club extends its sincere commiserations to St Feichin's NS Fore, on a narrow one point defeat to Multyfarnham's St Cremins NS in the 2025 Westmeath Primary Schools Division 4 Hurling final, also played at Mullingar's TEG Cusack Park on Monday May 19th. St Feichin's NS 3.07 St Cremins NS 5.02, was the match result.
St Mary's NS, then known as Collinstown NS, was then located opposite the former St Feighin's Church of Ireland on Collinstown's Mullingar road, first won what is now the Westmeath Primary Schools Division 1 Hurling Competition half a century ago. Collinstown NS defeated Rochfortbridge NS in the 1974 final, a final that was played in 1975. In that era, there was just a single primary schools Hurling competition, and a single primary schools gaelic football competition played on a annual basis, very different to the format that is now in place!
The match result as regards the actual scoreline in that match 50 years ago was, Collinstown NS 6.02 (20) Rochfortbridge NS 3.08 (17).
Previously in 1965, Collinstown NS won the Northern Division Westmeath Primary Schools Hurling League title, defeating Gehinstown NS (Archerstown area) in the final of that competition.
