Moate GAA mourns Tommy Collins

September 11, 2017

Tommy Collins RIP.

Moate GAA members were saddened to learn of the passing of Tommy Collins over the weekend.

Aged 92, he played for the All-Whites from boyhood to manhood, with his father Lewis having founded the club in 1923 along with TA Plunkett and Rev Felix McCaffrey O Carm. His son Mossy played with and trained Moate teams in more recent times.

Tommy served as honorary secretary of Moate All-Whites from 1947 to '55, and was instrumental in the club's greatest project to date - the fundraising, purchase, development and opening of Hogan Park. It stands as one of the finest playing pitches in the county, and Tommy's role in its creation will never be forgotten.

An avid GAA man, Tommy was laid to rest in Coosan Cemetery, Athlone earlier today. May he rest in peace.
