St Michael's.

Under 20 football championship

St Michael's welcomed Maryland/Tang on Tuesday evening last 10/8/24 to Castletown Finea as St Michaels U20s took on Maryland/Tang in their second championship game. St Michaels started the strongest and their first score was a goal. As half came to an end the score line was 2.3 to 0.6 in favour of St Michaels. The second half was a tighter affair and Maryland/Tang kept the pressure on throughout the whole half. A fortunist goal for St Michaels broke the oppositions resolve and this was followed by a second goal which swung this game in St Michaels favour.

St Michael's 5-07

Maryland/Tang. 2-09

Congratulations lads and management on a fantastic result.

St Michael's.

Under 14 division 2 football Championship.

St Michaels v Killucan

St Michaels welcomed Killucan to Ballycomoyle this evening in perfect conditions for football.

An enthralling encounter with both sides displaying some fantastic football with Killucan going in at the break by the minimum score of 1 point.

A tight second half but the visitors pulled away in the last quarter despite St Michaels never giving up.

23 players togged out and played a part, next up is St Mary's in two weeks' time.

Ballycomoyle.

Clarkes Junior 1 football championship.

Section B

Ballycomoyle travelled to Shandonagh on Friday evening last 9/8/24 to take on Moate all whites in the junior 1 football championship.

Moate started well with the first score of the game but after that it was Ballycomoyle that took full control of this match going in at half time leading on a score line of Ballycomoyle 2-06

Moate all whites 0-04.

In the second half it was much of the same with Ballycomoyle on top in this match running out winners on a final score line of

Ballycomoyle 3-10.

Moate all whites. 0-06.

Next up in two weeks time St Paul's.

Ladies football

LGFA Wright’s Windows Junior Football Championship

St Pauls Delvin v Ballycomoyle

Ballycomoyle junior ladies played their second championship match away at St Pauls Delvin on Saturday evening 10/08/24. On a warm evening in front of a large support, both teams served up a competitive first half of football; closer than the scoreline of Ballycomoyle 1-09 Delvin 4-09 would suggest, with only a few kicks of the ball between the teams and some missed scoring opportunities for the Ballycomoyle ladies. A strong defence in the second half reduced the number of goal opportunities for the home side but a very experienced St Pauls team got the victory in the end. Despite the final scoreline, a lot of positives to take from the game; almost half the match day panel were experiencing being involved in junior football for the first time and also some well-taken scores by the Ballycomoyle forwards. Thanks to St Pauls for a good game and to the referee Michael Moran.

Final score: Ballycomoyle 1-10 Delvin St Pauls 5-20

Under 12 Boys league.

Ballycomoyle v St Lomans

St Lomans were our visitors to Ballycomoyle on Friday evening last 9/8/24 in a round of the under 12 league. The Ballycomoyle boys played great football on the evening in a very tough game against St. Lomans. Our boys showed great teamwork with some brilliant passes that ended with great scores! Thanks to St. Lomans for traveling and for a great game of football.

Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha/ The Joe McDonagh Foundation.

Is scéim tacaíochta de chuid Ghlór na nGael agus de chuid an Chumainn Lúthchleas Gael í Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha le haghaidh clubanna CLG ar mian leo an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn.

Tá formhór na gclubanna ag cur na Gaeilge chun cinn bealach amháin nó bealach eile.  Is é cuspóir na fondúireachta seo ná na hiarrachtaí sin a fhorbairt ar bhonn tomhaiste agus pleanáilte.  Cuirfidh Glór na nGael cuidiú ar fáil don Oifigeach Gaeilge i bhfoirm chomhairle, tacaíochta agus idéanna le tógáil ar an obair mhaith atá á déanamh sa chlub cheana féin.  Is féidir deontas a lorg ón Fhondúireacht chun cuidiú leis na pleananna sin a chur i gcrích agus bronnfar bonn ar na clubanna as méid áirithe a bhaint amach ar son na teanga.

I mbliana (2024), tá Baile Uí Chumaoil cláraithe don scéim seo agus tá grúpa oibre againn chun gníomhaíochtaí éagsúla a eagrú. Rinneamar suirbhé ar bhaill maidir leis an Ghaeilge sa chlub idir 3/4/2024 agus 25/4/2024. Léirigh 86.1% gur mhaith leo go mbeadh stádas níos lárnaí ag an Ghaeilge i saol oifigiúil an chlub agus 75% gur chóir don chlub plean don Ghaeilge a fheidhmiú.

Ag aithint na héilimh agus na riachtanais a léiríodh sa suirbhé agus mianta Choiste Feidhmiúcháin agus Coiste Gaeilge an chlub, aontaíodh an fís  Ag Cruthú Spás don Ghaeilge (Making space for Gaeilge) don phlean teanga.

Léiríonn an fhís seo an bhéim a chuirfear ar fhoghlaim agus ar úsáid na Gaeilge a chothú i measc óige an chlub.  Is é an rún atá againn ná go mbeidh fáil ar dheiseanna foghlamtha oiriúnacha ag gach ball óg agus ardú suntasach ar úsáid na Gaeilge i measc na mball óg dá bharr faoi dheireadh thréimhse feidhme an phlean.

Ta áit lárnach agus tabhachtach ag Scór agus Scór na nÓg in ár gclub le blianta anuas. Leanfaimid ar aghaidh ag tabhairt seansanna do mhuintir ár gclub agus ár gceantar páirt a ghlacadh i gcomórtais de chuid Scór. Ta i gceist againn Ceardlann Scór na nÓg a eagrú roimh deireadh Mí Lúnasa.

I Mí Márta bhí cleachtadh don béal triail eagraithe ag an gclub agus bhí ciorcal comhrá eagraithe ag tus an samhradh. Táimid ar sos ón gCiorcal comhrá faoi lathair ach tosóimid arís roimh deireadh Mí Mean Fomhar. Ag dul ar aghaidh eagrófaí níos mó do na deiseanna seo.

Más maith leat níos mó eolais a fháil faoin Fondúireacht nó aon rud eile atá luaithe anseo dean teagmháil le Oifigeach cultúra an gclub, Catherine Daly, ar 087 9185962.

The Joe McDonagh Foundation is a support service provided by Glór na nGael and the Gaelic Athletic Association to GAA clubs wishing to further the Irish Language in their community.

Most clubs have been promoting the Irish language in some form or another.  The Foundation is here to help develop that promotion in a more measured and planned fashion. Glór na nGael will offer help to the Oifigeach Gaeilge to give them direction, support and ideas to build on the good work that has already been done within the club. Grants are available from the Foundation to help realise your plans and medals will be awarded to clubs for various levels of achievement in promotion of the language.

This year, in 2024, Baile Uí Chumaoil registered with the Foundation and a working group was formed to organise language promoting activities. The club undertook a survey with members regarding Irish Language within the club between 3/4/2024 and 25/4/2024. 36 people took part and 86.1% of survey participants agreed that they would like to see the Irish language have a more prominent role within the club and 75% agreed that the club should implement an Irish language plan.

Taking into consideration the demands and language needs recognised in the survey as well as the aims of the Executive Committee, the following vision statement was agreed,  Ag Cruthú Spás don Ghaeilge (Making space for Gaeilge) for the club’s Irish Language Plan.

This vision statement demonstrates that our members will have an opportunity to use and learn the Irish language through our various club activities and that the language will have an important place in the life of our club.

Scór and Scór na nÓg have formed a central and very important part of our club activities for a number of years. We will continue to offer opportunities to club members and members of our locality to participate in Scór competitions. We plan to hold a Scór na nÓg workshop before the end of August – full details to follow.

In March 2024 we organised Oral Irish practice session for Leaving Cert students in the locality and we organised a weekly ‘Ciorcal Comhrá’ at the beginning of the summer. We are currently on a break from the ‘Ciorcal Comhrá’ but plan to recommence before the end of September. We will continue to offer these opportunities in the future.

If you would like to find out more about the ‘Fondúireacht’ or are interested in information about any of the activities mentioned please contact Club Cultural Officer, Catherine Daly, on 087 9185962.

Many thanks Shaunagh.

A little tribute to Shaunagh from her under 8 girls.

On Friday night last 9/8/24 we presented Shaunagh with a small token of appreciation from Ballycomoyle for all her work and dedication to our club. Shaunagh has been an integral part of our club having played football all the way up and also as Secretary for our ladies club. She always gives up her time to help us here in Ballycomoyle and this year even with her busy schedule was part of the training team for our under 8 girls. We wish her luck on her next adventure in life and she will be sorely missed. Our loss is Dubai’s gain.
