Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Notes

Slevins Coaches SHAC - Round 1

Lough Lene Gaels..........3.19

St Oliver Plunketts.........0.17

Lough Lene Gaels overcame a highly prepared and superbly motivated St Oliver Plunketts 15, to make a winning start to their campaign in the 2024 Senior A Hurling Championship, in a Round 1 fixture, played on Saturday evening, July 13th, at Mullingar's TEG Cusack Park.

This was the 294th time, that Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club has played a fixture in this particular Westmeath club Hurling Championship competition, a participation, and involvement that started on Sunday July 19th 1970.

Two goals for Lough Lene Gaels scored within the opening 20 minutes of play, and both scored by Marcus Kennedy, were important in keeping a "safe" margin between the Purple and Golds, and their superb capital town opposition, from a Lough Lene Gaels perspective.

At half time, Lough Lene Gaels 2.11 St Oliver Plunketts 0.09, was the match scoreline.

The early second half playing trend of match action, was similar to much of the overall first half trend of play, competitive, and played to a very high standard. In the third quarter of play, Lough Lene Gaels scored a third goal.

Marcus Kennedy was the Lough Lene Gaels goalscorer, with a crisply struck first time "volleyed" strike of the ball, therefore scoring his third match goal in  this fixture.

While thereafter, until the conclusion of this SHAC R1 fixture, the trend of play continued to remain competitive, the cliche that refers to goals winning sporting contests, did certainly apply..

Were it not for Lough Lene Gaels scoring three goals in this R1 fixture, its actual outcome could have in fact favoured Westmeath's capital town Club!
