Seniors secure fourth successive win!

ACFL (Division 4)

St Josephs 1-11 St Lomans Mullingar 2-06

A hard earned two point win over St Loman's Mullingar at Home Instead Lakepoint Park on Sunday morning saw us maintain our great start to life in Division 4 of the All County League.

It certainly wasn’t a perfect performance, indeed far from it at times as we started very sharply and then ran cold for long periods of the game.

Ahead by 1-08 to 0-2 at half time, the margin was just about right on the balance of play where in the second half we had to withstand a huge fightback from the men in blue & white to edge the result. A great one to win though! We started on fire and had 1-03 on the board by the 6th minute with 1-2 coming from Ben Mc Donnell and 0-1 from Josh Gannon. St Josephs were 1-04 ahead before St Lomans fired over their opening score in the 19th minute. Alan Conlon who had replaced the injured Pearse Weir Norris in the 18th minute got the first of his two scores in the 20th minute with the second a minute later.

St Lomans claimed their second point in the 23rd minute before points from Daniel Keegan and Ben Mc Donnell left us at 1-8 to 0-2 in front at half time. St Lomans started the second half well with a pointed free and one from play inside the opening four minutes to gain a foothold. They came right back into contention with a goal in the 7th minute to leave us ahead by four points at 1-8 to 1-4. Brian Keegan and Jordan Mc Donnell pointed in the 8th and 9th minutes pushing the margin out to six points but St Lomans got their second three pointer with a well taken goal in the 12th minute leaving scores at 1-10 to 2-4.  St Lomans sent over pointed free in the 17th minute to reduce arrears to two points before Jordan Mc Donnell's 23rd minute point pushed St Josephs three in front again.

St Lomans did have the final score with a point after 27 minutes of the second half but that concluded the scoring as St Josephs won out by a two point margin.  Often, we have played better and lost so it was good to win what turned out to be a very tight game. Next game in this Division on Saturday 1st April versus Rosemount.
