Scór na nÓg semi-final a resounding success

St James’ Hall was packed to capacity last Friday night when we hosted the first of the Westmeath Scór na nÓg semi-finals.

This was a huge honour for our club and everyone rose to the occasion, from the people who helped with the parking, raffle, tuck shop, tea and refreshments, sound and stage organising to the brilliant young performers who took part in the Figure Dancing, Recitation and Traditional Music competitions.

Competing in the Instrumental Music section were Seamus Bohan, Laurence Bohan, Ben Gorman, Noah Gorman, Ben Kinahan, Pippa Larkin, Charlie Larkin, Guy Larkin and Tadhg McNamee. Our Figure Dancers, who kicked off the show, were Tara McMahon, Kasey Cornally, Layla Cornally, Alanna Cuskelly, Aden Lamar, Emelia Ryan, Alanna Costello, Ellen-Jo McLoughlin, Emer McDonnell, Ashling McDonnell, Faye Marshall and Tessa Marshall.

And not forgetting Emily-Rose Scally who participated in the Recitation. At the end of the night, we had two acts through to the county final in The Downs on Sunday week, March 26 in Figure Dancing and Instrumental Music.

Sincere thanks to all the fantastic volunteers for helping us make the event such a resounding success. We would also like to thank Centra Kilbeggan and McNamara’s Bar & Lounge for the raffle prizes and refreshments provided. Well done also to Geraldine Fennell and Fiona Kiernan for all the work they’ve done to promote Scór in Kilbeggan, and for bringing an event like this to the town for the first time in over 40 years.

Hopefully, it will become a more regular occurrence!

Fixtures

Our first and second teams are both back in All-County League action this St Patrick’s weekend.

Our first team will aim to make it four wins from four in Division 3 when they travel to Springfield to play Mullingar Shamrocks on Saturday at 12 noon. Then on Sunday, our seconds are at home to Multyfarnham at 11.30am. Best of luck to both teams.

Philip Kiernan

Following the recent departure of our Games Promotion Officer (GPO), Philip Kiernan has offered to take on the role in a voluntary capacity.

This is fantastic news as Philip is a very respected figure in the club who boasts a wealth of experience as a player, coach and administrator. He played senior football for his native Longford for many years and also served as both a Longford and Westmeath senior selector.

Jemma Seery

Congratulations to Jemma Seery on making the Westmeath minor ladies football panel. We are also represented at U16 and U14 level by Emma Murphy and Ava Rochford respectively.

Membership

Membership is now due for all age groups and can be paid on Foireann. Payment can also be made by cash to Shaun Pidgeon. Remember, if you're not a paid-up member, you're not insured to play.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 6, 17, 24 and 26. There was no Match 3 or jackpot winner. Thanks to everyone for their support. The jackpot is capped at €15,000. You can purchase your tickets in local shops or online.
