Coralstown-Kinnegad finished their Adult Ladies Football League Division 2 campaign on a positive note with a 3-7 to 1-6 win over St Loman's of Mullingar at home last Friday evening.

Twice St Loman's edged in front in the opening 10 minutes and twice the Reds responded with points by Therese Murray and Kiara Giles (free) before the outstanding Aileen Brannock gave them the lead for the first time in the game.

Then came the first of the Coralstown-Kinnegad goals. Maeve Walsh started the move with a vital interception before Kate Broderick sidestepped her St Loman's marker and buried the ball in the net to give her side a 1-3 to 0-2 half-time cushion.

St Loman's were again first off the mark in the second-half after a couple of missed opportunities at both ends but a brace of well struck points from Giles ensured the Reds stayed in front.

Coralstown-Kinnegad pushed on in the final quarter, exerting more dominance across the field and turning over possession while working the ball forward brilliantly.

The Reds breached the visitors' defence with two further goals in quick succession. Murray made no mistake for the second and impressive substitute Aileen Murtagh got the third from a rebound.

Mia McDonald followed up with a point from play. St Loman's, to their credit, kept fighting and got a goal of their own but could have had a few more near the end, with Becky Carney pulling off some fine saves.

Coralstown-Kinnegad will be looking to build on this excellent team performance and victory as attentions turn to their intermediate championship opener against neighbours Killucan on July 14.

Meanwhile, in Kinnegad on Sunday morning, the hosts played out an entertaining 3-7 to 2-10 draw with Cill Óige in Division 4. Chloe Carney, Cilla Macari and Tally Claffey were the Coralstown-Kinnegad goalscorers on this occasion.
