There is speculation in Meath that Nick Weir is set to become the new county senior hurling manager.

The Royals are looking for a new manager since Nick Fitzgerald decided to step down from the position after two years in the role.

Fitzgerald left having guided the side to Christy Ring Cup glory this year and Meath will ply their trade in the Joe McDonagh Cup in 2020.

Weir is widely tipped to take over from Fitzgerald and he brings a lot of experience to the role.

From the Raharney club in Westmeath, he guided his native club to county final appearances in 2017 and 2018.

He has also been coach of DCU hurlers for the past few seasons where they have made great strides in the Fitzgibbon Cup.

In 2013, Weir was in charge of Longwood as they shocked the hurling fraternity to reach the county SHC final.
