Music will be provided by The Lols with a DJ playing afterwards. Everyone in the local community is welcome to attend what promises to be the social event of the year.

Division 6B v Tang

Our second team suffered their first defeat in Division 6B of the All-County League to Tang last Sunday, with the home side running out 4-7 to 2-6 winners.

Our first team’s Division 3 tie against St Loman’s, which was scheduled for Saturday, was postponed and will be played at a later date.

Team: Thomas Barrett; Aidan Stone, Darragh Coffey, Dylan Maloney; Ryan Coughlan, Alan Fennell, Diarmuid Egan; Mel Kiernan, Niall Carey; Kevin Smith, Sean Maher, Cathal Maher; Aaron McNamee, James Finnegan, Cathal Finn. Subs used: Yuri Tierney, Warren Maher, Ciaran Egan, Danny Scully, Finbar Coffey and Martin Ward.

Ladies v Moate

Our ladies’ footballers opened their Division 2 league campaign with a 1-5 to 0-8 draw away to Moate last Sunday.

With Martin Maher, who is ably assisted by Bernie Barrett and Myra Daly, taking charge for the first time, we showed great determination and impressive fitness levels to come away with a share of the spoils.

In what was a game of two halves, we made good use of wind advantage to lead at half-time, Aleisha Fitzgerald, who has transferred back to us after playing her football in Dublin for the past few years, scored a brilliant goal, while all bar one of our scores came from play.

As expected, Moate rallied with the wind in the second half, but we held firm as they came in search of a winning goal in the closing stages. Indeed, only the woodwork denied us a couple of more goals early in the second half after we had worked the ball through the hands into scoring positions.

All in all, it was an encouraging start to the year and with the camogie-tied Mairead McCormack, Niamh and Triona Durkan still to return, we should be in a good place come the start of the intermediate championship.

Panel on duty: Sabrina Jackson, Jenny Barrett, Tara Dennehy, Orla Daly, Gillian Heeney, Sharon Heeney, Leah Farrell, Aoibheann Jackson, Aine Pettit, Becky Scally, Jill Draper (captain), Aideen Pettit, Anna Wrafter, Niamh Daly, Orla Brennan, Emer Heeney, Kelly Tormey, Deirdre Robbins, Katie Coffey, Aleisha Fitzgerald, Sandra Garvin, Eimear Fox (injured) and Triona Durkan (injured).

U16 v Maryland/Tang

Despite producing a battling performance, our U16s were beaten by Maryland/Tang in their second Division 3 league outing in Kilbeggan last Sunday.

Senan Claffey netted in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to stop the combination side, who won the Division 2 championship last year, from taking home the spoils.

Team: Ryan Dinnegan; Kian Daly, Jack Mullins; Ciaran Coffey, Senan Claffey, Jamie Rock-Fuller; Micheal Coffey, Padraig Carton; Ciaran Egan, Aaron Nannery, Arthur O’Rourke; Joey Nannery, Aaron O’Brien. Subs: Brian Egan, Brian McMahon and Conor Mullins.
