Waterford mourns Tony Mansfield

The late Tony Mansfield
Waterford GAA is mourning the death of former hurling manager Tony Mansfield.
The Abbeyside - Ballinacourty clubman passed away in hospital in Cork yesterday evening after listening to the Waterford v Cork Allianz League game on the radio. He will be remembered as a fiercely passionate hurling man who was well-liked and much-admired by all who knew him.
Mansfield had two spells in charge of the Waterford senior hurlers during the lean years of the 1980s and 1990s, but his finest hour was undoubtedly leading the U21s to an All-Ireland final replay victory over Offaly in 1992. The Deise haven't won an All-Ireland in any grade since then.
In recent years, Tony wrote a column for the Dungarvan Observer which was looked forward to every week by hurling fans in the area. Tony was the last local to manage Waterford before Michael Ryan's appointment in October 2011 bridged a 15-year gap.
May he rest in peace.
