Mark Fitzgerald tasted his first win as Clare senior football manager this afternoon after his side saw off Waterford on an emphatic 3-18 to 1-7 scoreline in Lemybrien.

Having succeed long time supremo Colm Collins in September, Tralee native Fitzgerald experienced defeat in his first competitive game in charge as Cork came away from Clarecastle with a 2-18 to 0-8 victory last Wednesday night.

However, today’s second round McGrath Cup clash saw goals from Dermot Coughlan (2) and Darren O’Brien back on the winning track as the Banner men defeated their Deise counterparts by a 17-point margin.

Fitzgerald’s charges are gearing up for their Allianz League Division 3 campaign which commences at home to Sligo three weeks from today.
