High drama was guaranteed today with action in all four provincial football championships as well as the second Munster SHC semi-final.

With Waterford already safely through to the decider, defending provincial champions Limerick and Liam MacCarthy Cup holders Tipperary clashed in a mouth-watering Munster hurling championship semi-final in atrocious conditions at Pairc Ui Chaoimh (4pm).

At the same time, Derry hosted Armagh in the day's second Ulster SFC quarter-final, while earlier in the afternoon Tyrone travelled to Ballybofey to face Donegal in a huge, winner-takes-all Ulster derby encounter at 1:30.

Tipperary welcomed Clare to Thurles at 1pm for the right to meet Limerick in a novel Munster SFC semi-final next weekend, while Leitrim entertained Mayo in a do-or-die Connacht SFC quarter-final (1:15). Meanwhile, all three Leinster SFC first-round ties threw in at 1:30: Louth V Longford, Offaly V Carlow and Wexford V Wicklow.
