Tara get off to a good start in the Camogie Mixed League

On the opening day for Camogie Board Britain official fixtures for 2018, Croydon, Fr Murphy's and Tara met at Tir Chonaill Gaels Greenford for the Mixed League Blitz Day 1.

With conditions less than favourable, Tara got off to a slow start against Fr Murphy's in their first game however soon found their feet and with some good work by Rachel Kelly and Eilish O'Neill  in midfield, good balls were pushed forward to Claire Ryan and Joni Traynor in the forward line who quickly put 5 points past Fr Murphys in the opening half.  Murphy's broke forward a couple of times, but the Tara full back line of Kathleen O'Keefe and Catherine McLoughlin did very well to keep the pressure off goalie Brid Keating. In the second half, the Tara forwards kept the pressure on Murphy's with some great scores by Ryan from far out. Murphys staged a late comeback with a couple of well worked goals, however, with Katie Walsh scoring a goal on her Tara debut,  Tara ran out comfortable winners in the end 2-12 to 2-01.

In the second game, Tara came up against a strong Croydon team. Croydon started the much better with great work by Caoilinn O'Neil and Angela Kerr. The Tara back line had their work cut out for them but with Caoimhe Staunton and Lisa Creamer working resiliently, they were able to keep the Croydon scores contained. However, at half time it was Croydon who went into the break in the lead.

In the second half, Tara came out much stronger. With Rachel Kelly controlling the middle of the field, herself and Megan McGuire feed some great ball into O'Neill and Traynor in the forward line, with the scores starting to come for Tara. Towards the last five minutes of the game, both teams exchanged great goals to level scores. With Tara winning a free in the dying seconds of the game, it fell to Claire Ryan to step up to try and clinch a victory for Tara. Sending the bar over the bar, Tara won by the narrowest of margins - final score 3-01 to 1-06.

All three teams meet again in two weeks for the second Blitz Day in London. Many thanks to Tir Chonaill Gaels for the use of the pitch and to referee Paddy Mullaly on the day.
