Tyrone took a huge stride towards safety in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League this afternoon thanks to a convincing 2-15 to 0-13 win over relegation-threated Monaghan in Clones.

Peter Harte (penalty) and Cormac Quinn bagged the goals in the first-half for the Red Hands as they went in leading at the break by 2-5 to 0-8.

Things got worse for the host as attacker Jack McCarron was sent off early in the restart for picking up a black card, having already been on a caution, and they’d also lose Killian Lavelle to a straight red card for his challenge on opponent Conor Meyler.

It means that the Farney men must now overcome Mayo in Castlebar and hope that Tyrone defeat Armagh if they are to hold on to their topflight league status.
