Donnelly not getting carried away

Mattie Donnelly says Tyrone’s big win over Kerry last Sunday will count for nothing if they end up being relegated from Division 1 of the Allianz Football League.

The 1-15 to 2-9 victory moved the Red Hands out of the bottom two on scoring difference with two rounds remaining. But Donnelly, who put his injury problems behind him to produce a man of the match performance, stressed the need to play like that on a more consistent basis.

"I enjoy any day Tyrone win, and I enjoy any day they win when they're not meant to and I enjoy any day you beat the All-Ireland champions, so it was enjoyable today personally,” the Trillick clubman told BBC NI.

"But it will only be satisfying on reflection if we stay up. It is up to the players now to make sure the bar is very much raised.

"Kerry are the gold standard in Gaelic football, they always have been, but we pride ourselves as a forceful football county, a passionate football county.

"We are keen to get to the levels Kerry are at so we have a big few weeks ahead."
