A Westmeath match official who saved a young player’s life a few months ago proved his worth once again yesterday when coming to the aid of a Tyrone player who suffered a potentially serious injury during their Lidl Ladies National League Division 2 game against Westmeath.

Paramedic Kieran Daly was on linesman duty at TEG Cusack Park when Aoife Horisk experienced tingling and pain in her neck and upper back after colliding with a Westmeath opponent midway through the second half. Kieran took on the role of clinical lead as he assisted Order of Malta personnel with proper spinal immobility for the player in case of serious injury.

The game was stopped for almost 20 minutes to allow for an ambulance to enter the field and remove the injured player to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore where she underwent tests last night. Tyrone officials and team management were quick to thank Kieran for his exemplary work after the final whistle.

The incident came after the Kilbeggan Shamrocks clubman was hailed as a hero after administering first aid on a young player who collapsed during a Westmeath U15FC final between Inny Shamrocks and Lilliput Gaels he refereed last October.
