Top of the tree this week is the Tyrone Senior Ladies big game on Sunday 16th when they go into battle against Meath in the All Ireland Intermediate Final. Game is in Croke Park at 1:45pm and we hope and pray that the team can go one better than last year and land the title. Another big day out for our County following on from the Men’s final and an added bonus for our own Club as we have two long standing Club players on the team, Emma Mulgrew and Gráinne Rafferty have been faithful servants to Killeeshil St. Mary’s and the Tyrone set-up for many years and there would be no greater day in our recent history than to see them return to our Club as All Ireland Winners. There has been great demand for tickets for the game and our Club is proud to be running a supporters bus down to Headquarters. Everyone at Killeeshil GFC wish Gerry Moane and the Tyrone Senior Ladies and especially Emma and Gráinne the very very best of luck for Sunday’s encounter.
Tickets for Sunday’s game will be handed out on Wednesday night in the Centre at 7:30pm.
Saturday evening in Loughmacrory was the place to be on the 8th when our Senior Men went into Championship action against Drumragh. Everyone who was at the game witnessed one of the best performances of the year from every single player on show as the team racked up a score of 1:21 to beat Drumragh by an 11 point margin on a score of 1:21 to 2:07. Having had the majority of the play in the first half the team entered the break level but whatever was said at half time the team came out with and even greater urgency and never let up in the second period and from 1 to 15 never put a foot wrong, great goal keeping, defensive hard work and an energetic midfield, keep the ever mobile forwards feed with quality ball and a ruthless team display outscored their opponents 1:11 to 0:03 in the second half. A top performance has now paired the team with Beragh in a Championship Semi Final which will be played in Killyclogher on Saturday 22nd September at 3pm. Well done team and management and a big thank you to Eire Óg Carrickmore for providing the team with a field to warm up for the game on Saturday afternoon.
The U16 men hosted Naomh Padraig in a playoff on Saturday to decide on pairings ahead of a league quarter final. The game was a thriller with Naomh Padraig winning out after extra time on a final scoreline of 5-16 to 4-14.
The first half was a cagey affair with our opponents edging the game at half time 1-06 to 0-04.
The match sprung to life in the 2nd half and helped by 3 Cahir Quinn goals and a Michael Gormley penalty the lads went on a scoring spree to take a 5 point lead. Naomh Padraig responded with 2 late goals and were edging the match by 1 until an equalising point sent the game to extra time on a full time score of 4-13 to 4-13.
In extra time Naomh Padraig took the ascendancy to lead by 5. The boys continued to fight hard with Michael Gormley rattling the crossbar and a Caolan Kilpatrick shot cleared off the line towards the end but Naomh Padraig held on for the victory.
The result means the team will now play away to Drumragh in a league quarter final.
The U12 boys produced a very good team performance at home on Wednesday evening to beat a well drilled Edendork side on a final scoreline of 4-11 to 3-10. Strong performances from goalkeeper Michael Conway as well as defenders Ronan Bell and Caolan McElvogue laid a sound platform for the victory. In attack some excellent Conor McCool scores and 2 well taken Nathan Kelly goals caught the eye. In what was a 19 man squad performance everyone can be proud of their efforts. The team played their final game of the season on Monday night with a home game against Dungannon, played in miserable conditions, Dungannon edged the game but the lads can be very proud of their performance and the effort and work rate they have showed all year.
U8 men head off to the Moy Tournament this Saturday to compete in one of the most popular tournaments of the year, lots of teams, lots of football and an enjoyable day will be had by all that attend, best of luck lads.
