The Christmas tree made from hurls and sliotars in Youghal

A Christmas tree made from old hurls and sliotars has become a special attraction at a GAA club in Co. Cork.

The unique tree, which has an O’Neills football on top, went on display outside the Youghal GAA clubhouse in the past week. The club has thanked father-and-daughter John and Lynn O’Connell for designing it.

“Christmas has arrived at Club Áras… come see our very special Christmas tree made up of old club Hurleys,” Youghal GAA said.

Under the heading ‘Santa Claus is camán to town’, local Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh Ó Loaghaire posted a photo online of the tree with the words: “Brought the 14-year-old to a game in Youghal GAA today and I liked this. You wouldn’t often see an ash Christmas tree, but I feel it works.”
