The Tipperary minors’ odds-defying victory over Kilkenny in last year’s All-Ireland final was a huge source of inspiration to their senior counterparts, according to Liam Cahill.
Coming just a few weeks after the seniors made an early Munster SHC exit, the U17 success – which was achieved with 13 players – gave everyone in the Premier County a major lift, including Liam Cahill and his players who are now just 70 minutes away from securing All-Ireland glory themselves.
"We came out of Nowlan Park on the back of such a huge performance from young players of 16 and 17 years of age showing us what we try to ingrain in our players from a coaching and management perspective," Cahill said at Tipp’s All-Ireland press event.
"The minor win gave us a great sense of pride, but also a great sense of realisation as a senior squad and senior management team, that we need to be doing that from where we’re at and the responsibility we have to the jersey.
"That has to come from the top down, we should be inspiring young fellas rather than them inspiring us."
The Tipp manager never doubted his, nor his team’s ability, to bounce back from a disappointing 2024.
“I had huge belief in my ability to turn it around. I had huge belief in my coaching system, Mikey Bevans, I have huge belief in him.
"Declan Laffan and his experience with what he had done on the club scene in Tipperary and Laois. I knew I had the right people so it was a case of getting it fixed,” he added.
