Thurles CBS are Dr Harty Cup champions for the first time since 2015 after a 1-13 to 0-13 victory over St Flannan’s College, Ennis in Mallow this afternoon.
Jack Hayes’s goal in the 38th minute proved the difference between the sides as Thurles CBS became the third Tipperary school in-a-row to triumph in this competition.
St Flannan’s College had led by 0-7 to 0-5 at the halfway stage, with a superbly sailed ‘65’ from skipper James Hegarty cushioning their lead to two-points in the run up to the break.
A sublime pass from Toby Corbett to Hayes saw the latter firing the Thurles lads in front eight minutes into the resumption and, from there, they were able to see out the win.
The points of Cillian Minogue, free-taker Cormac Fitzpatrick and Killian Cantwell helped them get over the line in the end, with the final whistle sparking huge celebrations as the Tipperary side had survived a late goal mouth scramble.
