There was late drama in this afternoon’s All-Ireland club intermediate hurling championship final as captain Sean Desmond’s goal in the dying stage saw Watergrasshill (Cork) break the hearts of Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry (Galway) for a 2-15 to 0-18 victory at Croke Park.
A cracking contest at headquarters saw the Cork men leading by 1-8 to 0-7 at the halfway stage, with Adam Murphy netting their first goal just eight minutes into the decider.
Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry (Galway) battled back after the change of ends and the points of Shane Maloney would help see them level by the 42nd minute.
Maloney shot the Galway champions in front two minutes later, and it went back and forth between these two evenly matched teams into the added minutes when Desmond saw a point erased by Ben Moran in the third minute of injury-time which looked to have the final headed for extra time.
That was until this last minute goal from Desmond (watch it below) sent the Watergrasshill men into a euphoric state and ensured the All-Ireland club IHC trophy was headed to the Rebel County.
