Limerick’s hopes of regaining the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2025 have been dealt a massive blow with the news that Nickie Quaid is set to be sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury.
The five-time All-Ireland winning goalkeeper’s worst fears were realised following a scan last Friday. Quaid has been a central figure in the Treaty County’s incredible run of success since 2018. In that time, he has also won seven Munster SHC titles and collected his third All-Star recently after another outstanding season between the posts.
"We wish Nickie the very best in his recovery and assure him of our total support in the months ahead," said a statement from the Limerick management team read.
David McCarthy and Jason Gillane are expected to be battle it out for the number one jersey in Quaid’s absence next year.
