Thomastown tore up the script on O’Loughlin Gaels to claim their first Kilkenny senior hurling championship title since 1946 at Nowlan Park this afternoon.
Intermediate championship winners last year, The Town were simply too good for the holders as they ran up a 0-9 to 0-4 lead on them by the end of the first-half.
A sublime pass from John Donnelly found Robbie Donnelly in at his right half-forward station to extend Thomastown’s lead to six two minutes into the restart and they kept the scores flowing.
Meanwhile, the Gaels would only register a single point in the third quarter and two more thereafter, as the scores of John Donnelly, Robbie Donnelly, Rory Connellan and Stephen Donnelly saw towards their second ever SHC success.
