Goals were key as Blackrock advanced to the knock-out stages of the Cork Premier senior hurling championship thanks to a 3-17 to 0-21 victory over Newcestown in Coachford yesterday.
Alan Connolly’s goal helped the would-be winners lead by 1-7 to 0-9 at half-time and, after the change of ends, it was two goals in the space of eight minutes from Shane O’Keeffe and Robbie Cotter that proved decisive.
It sees the Rockies joining Fr O’Neills in the knock-out stages of this year’s Seán Óg Murphy Cup race, after the latter edged out St Finbarrs by 0-18 to 0-15 on Saturday.
County man Declan Dalton contributed a dozen points in the clash at Midelton and the weekend’s results mean that Barrs – champions in 2022 – are now eliminated.
