A last-gasp point from Limerick's Jack Cosgrove knocked All-Ireland champions Tipperary out of the Munster MHC at FBD Semple Stadium last evening.
The half back struck in the 65th minute to earn the visitors a dramatic 1-23 to 1-22 victory and end Tipp's involvement with a round still to play in the group stages. With Robbie Ryan in fine scoring form, Tipp led by 0-12 to 0-10 at half-time, but Limerick rallied after the restart with points from Darren Collopy and Tadhg Boddy to open up a 0-17 to 0-13 advantage.
Tipp then hit a purple patch which yielded an unanswered 1-3 - the goal coming from Cian Rowan - to put themselves in a winning position. The lead changed hands again when Robert O'Farrell netted for the Treaty. Back came Tipp again to level before Cosgrove won it at the death.
Tipp's defeat meant that Cork and Clare would both progress regardless. As it transpired, Clare came out on top by 0-17 to 0-12 in Sixmilebridge after hitting seven unanswered points in the second half.
