Clare legend Ger Loughnane is tipping Kilkenny “to stop Limerick’s gallop” when the two sides clash in tomorrow’s All-Ireland SHC final.

The Treaty men are gunning for their third consecutive Liam McCarthy Cup success and are 1/2 favourites to overcome the Cats at Croke Park.

Writing for Buzz.ie, two-time All-Ireland winner Loughnane predicts an upset at headquarters tomorrow given Kilkenny’s track record on hurling’s biggest stage.

“Kilkenny’s speciality is winning finals against the odds, and has been so for generations — even before the arrival of a certain Brian Cody.

“Now here we go again. Limerick are unbackable favourites to win tomorrow — but I don’t have much confidence in those who draw up those odds, given the fact they made Clare favourites to beat Kilkenny.

“If anything, Limerick have been more impressive this year than in any other season under John Kiely.”

He added: “Limerick are the hottest of favourites again, but the heavy hand of history can weigh heavily. Kilkenny to stop Limerick’s gallop.”
