Jack Coyne has been appointed Mayo senior football captain for 2026.
The 25-year-old All-Star nominee will succeed fellow defender Paddy Durcan in the role. He is the second Ballyhaunis clubman in a decade to skipper Mayo, following in the footsteps of new Mayo U20 boss Keith Higgins. Coyne made his senior debut for the Westerners in 2021 and won a Connacht SFC medal in the same year. He also claimed an Allianz League medal in 2023.
The vice-captaincy will be shared by Belmullet’s Ryan O’Donoghue and Knockmore’s Darren McHale.
“Jack goes about his business in an understated but extremely effective and composed manner,” Mayo GAA chairman Seamus Tuohy said.
“He is an exemplary individual who has proven himself as a teak-tough defender over recent years. Jack has been an integral member of the Mayo senior football panel for the past few years, and his leadership both on and off the pitch is outstanding."
