Andy Moran is set to be named as Mayo's new senior football manager.
The 2017 Footballer of the Year will be ratified as Kevin McStay's successor at the next county board meeting and will have recently-departed Derry manager Paddy Tally and former Mayo team-mate Colm Boyle in his management team. Recent reports suggested that it was a two-horse race between Moran and 2002 Armagh All-Ireland SFC winner Tony McEntee for the job.
Moran is a revered figure in Mayo, with whom he won eight Connacht SFC medals, but finished on the losing side in six All-Ireland SFC finals. After retiring from inter-county football, he was appointed Leitrim manager in 2021 and guided them to promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz League last year. This season, he was involved as a coach with Monaghan who reached the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals.
