Westmeath senior football manager Dermot McCabe looks set for a switch to his native Cavan after it emerged this morning that fellow candidate Finbar O’Reilly has dropped out of the race to become the Breffni County’s next supremo.

The Anglo-Celt reports that Lacken clubman O’Reilly has pulled out of the interview process for the vacancy, which seemingly leaves the way clear for McCabe to take the role.

McCabe and O’Reilly were the two candidates nominated within the county as Cavan look to find a successor to Raymond Galligan who stood down from his post last month after two years at the helm.

Currently employed as Cavan’s Head of Games, McCabe took the reins as Westmeath boss last October following Dessie Dolan’s decision to step down.

The interview process by a five-man sub-committee appointed by Cavan county board is scheduled to commence today.
