Tyrone will play Cavan in next weekend’s Ulster minor football championship final after both teams came through their respective semi-finals this evening.

The Red Hands stayed on course for a record-extending 26th provincial title in the grade by seeing off Monaghan on a 2-20 to 3-12 scoreline in Omagh.

The hosts were 0-6 to 0-1 in front when Peter Garrity lashed in their first goal in the 14th minute, but Monaghan recovered well to net twice and square up things by half-time (1-10 to 2-7).

Tyrone found the net again through Thomas Meenan just four minutes into the restart and, while they’d a Harry Hamill goal to fall behind by two, the points of James Mulgrew and Peter Colton were backed up by a couple of Joel Kerr two-pointers that put them on the path to victory.

In Kingspan Breffni, Cavan moved into their first Ulster MFC final in eight years with an impressive 1-17 to 0-15 win over Donegal.

After getting out to an early 0-4 to 0-2 lead, Ed O’Hanlon’s side would go on to trail by the minimum at half-time as Joseph Gibbions (free) and Cathal Doherty sailed over scores for Donegal late in the half.

Harry McMullen levelled for the Breffni lads two minutes into to the resumption and the sides would be all square on 0-11 apiece when full-forward Nathan Quigley bagged the crucial goal for the hosts in the 38th minute.

Cavan were able to stretch their lead out to five over the next eight minutes and Sam Maguire’s score made it a six-point game with as many minutes remaining, meaning a late two-pointer from Jamie Gavigan ended up being in vain for the visitors as the Blues progressed with five to spare in the end.
