Tyrone dominated in the first-half to help set-up a 1-24 to 0-20 win against Cavan in Omagh this afternoon and progress to an Ulster SFC semi-final date with Armagh.

Malachy O’Rourke’s side made an impressive start and went on to run up a 0-14 to 0-4 lead by half-time, with Darren McCurry, Cathal McShane, Ruairi Canavan and Peter Harte among their scorers during the opening 35 minutes at a damp Healy Park.

All in all, the Red Hands would have 13 different scorers from their starting 15 selection over the course of the game but were made to see out this provincial quarter-final victory as Cavan battled back to within six points of them with less than a quarter hour remaining.

Dara McVeety led the charge for the Breffni men with three two-pointers, while Sean McEvoy and Ryan O’Neill sent over points that saw the scoreboard reading 0-23 to 0-17 come the 57th minute.

However, the stuffing would be knocked out of Raymond Galligan’s side when a McCurry point was backed up by a brilliantly taken Conn Kilpatrick goal with eight minutes left on the clock.

McEvoy (2) and McVeety would send over the game’s last three scores after that, but it left the Blues seven short in the end as Tyrone now move on to a Ulster semi-final showdown with the All-Ireland champions on Saturday, April 26th.
