Paddy Tally was already looking towards Derry’s Ulster SFC opener against Donegal next month following their relegation to Division 2.

A 1-17 to 2-19 defeat to Mayo consigned the reigning Allianz League champions to the drop with a round still to play against All-Ireland champions Armagh.

"It is (all about the Donegal game), Championship is coming up in three weeks and you haven't an awful lot of time to get ready for that," the Oak Leaf boss told BBC NI.

"The Armagh game, obviously we'll give our best and it's an opportunity for some boys to play, but our focus has to turn towards the Championship.

"It's disappointing, I think it's been a tough league for the players with the way it's worked out. We've had to work with a skeletal panel at times, blood a few players and then the new rules, but today was the day we really wanted to finish off with a win (against Mayo), but we never got to the pitch of the game until it was too late."
