Armagh thumped Dublin with a 1-20 to 1-12 victory at the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds tonight to take a step closer towards securing safety in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League.

The All-Ireland champions blew the visitors away in the first-half, running up a 0-6 to 0-0 lead before Barry McCambridge smashed in their goal in the 12th minute.

Ethan Rafferty (free), Conor Turbitt (free) and Rory Grugan would all add points to the Orchard men’s tally before the Dubs finally got off the mark with a Con O’Callaghan point in the 20th minute.

Ross McQuillan and Greg McCabe added to Armagh’s tally before half-time, when they led by 1-12 to 0-3, and McQuillan and Grugan (2) would make it a 15-point game three minutes into the second period.

Dessie Farrell’s side did make a marked improvement after the change of ends, starting with a Lorcan O’Dell goal being backed up by a two-point from O’Callaghan.

In fact, the Dubs would get back to within five of the hosts as Luke Breathnach, Kevin Lahiff and substitute Cormac Costello helped raised their tally to 1-11, but Armagh would be able to steady the ship in the closing 10 minutes thanks to the scores of Darragh McMullan, Tomás McCormack (two-pointer) and Turbitt.
