The race for the Hogan Cup is down to the last-four after the provincial champions were crowned at the weekend.
There were joyous scenes in Glenisk O’Connor Park where Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar defeated first-time finalists Ardscoil na Tríonóide by 3-10 to 1-13 after extra-time to end a 43-year wait for Leinster Post Primary Schools SF ‘A’ Championship honours. Two goals from Shandonagh young gun Will Scahill and another from substitute Paul Keating secured the Br Bosco Cup for the Westmeath outfit.
Mullingar will face St Colman’s, Claremorris in the All-Ireland semi-final in a fortnight’s time after the Mayo side edged out Summerhill College, Sligo by 2-9 to 1-9 in Ballyhaunis.
The winners led by 2-5 to 0-5 at half-time thanks to goals from top-scorer Darragh Beirne and Ciaran Treacy, and held on for the win, despite the Sligo men reducing the deficit the minimum in the second half.
The other semi-final will be contested by St Patrick’s, Maghera and Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee. St Patrick’s recovered from the concession of two early goals to claim their 17th MacRory Cup with a 0-12 to 2-5 victory over Abbey Vocational School at Celtic Park, while Mercy Mounthawk retained the Corn Uí Mhuirí in Munster after overcoming Kerry rivals St Brendan’s, Killarney by 2-11 to 0-10.
Midfielder Ben Murphy and attacker Tomás Kennedy were outstanding for the winners who were also grateful for a late penalty save by Ruairí Kennedy from Joey McCarthy.
