John Donnelly has been named as the new Kilkenny senior hurling captain.
As per tradition in Kilkenny, Thomastown had the honour of choosing the captain as county champions and nominated Donnelly for the role. His club-mate Peter McDonald has been handed the vice-captaincy following Thomastown’s first Kilkenny SHC success in 78 years last October.
The duo take over from Paddy Deegan and Huw Lawlor respectively ahead of the Cats’ Allianz Hurling League Division 1A opener against reigning League and All-Ireland champions Clare on Sunday afternoon.
